Lumber and Wood Panel Strapping

Lumber strapping is the band that keeps sawn lumber, MDF, particleboard and plywood packs together as one block through forklift handling and trucking. PP covers short storage, and embossed PET strap is the right call for long hauls.

Wood shrinks, packs loosen

As wood loses moisture it shrinks and the strap loses tension. Choose embossed PET for packs that will sit for a long time or travel far; it stretches and recovers, so it holds tension better than PP. Unlike steel banding, plastic strap cannot rust, so lumber stored outdoors stays free of rust marks.

Lines, tools and rail

Band packs on the stacker line with an automatic machine, in the yard with a battery tool or by hand with buckles. European buyers may cite EN 13394 for nonmetallic strap. Lumber moving on open-top rail cars in North America falls under the AAR Open Top Loading Rules; our verification documents cover three Type IV PET variants only: smooth 5/8 in × 0.035 in and 3/4 in × 0.040 in, and embossed 5/8 in × 0.035 in.

Frequently asked questions

Is PP enough for lumber packs?

For short distances and light packs, yes. As packs get heavier or wait longer, PP loses tension; move to embossed PET. At the same 5/8 in width, the catalog values are 595 lbf (270 kg) and 937 lbf (425 kg).

Will the strap mark the wood?

A tight strap can bite into the edge of softwood. Use corner protectors and set tension so the pack is compressed without crushing the edge.
