Pumice Block Strapping

Pumice block strapping holds blocks and lightweight building elements made with pumice aggregate together as cubes. Pumice is light but abrasive, so Polipak Plastik recommends embossed PET here.

Abrasive surface, fragile corners

A pumice block has a rough surface that wears the strap as the load vibrates in transit. Its corners are fragile, and a tight strap can break them. Put protectors on the cube corners and band the cube both horizontally and vertically.

Why embossed PET?

Embossed PET reaches a catalog break strength of 937 lbf (425 kg) at 5/8 in × 0.030 in (16 × 0.75 mm) and does not rust in an open yard. Block plants band cubes with a cube strapping machine; on site, a battery tool or buckles are enough. For heavy cubes on long hauls, step up to 5/8 in × 0.039 in (1,290 lbf / 585 kg). If a buyer abroad asks for an ASTM D3950 or EN 13394 reference, add it to your inquiry.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use PP on pumice block cubes?

On light, short-distance loads, yes. On an abrasive surface under constant load, PP loses tension faster; for long hauls and cubes that wait outdoors, choose embossed PET.

Is the strap for pumice the same as for marble?

No. Marble slabs are heavy and sharp-edged and call for thick PET in 5/8 in to 3/4 in widths. Pumice blocks are light but abrasive; start with 5/8 in × 0.030 in embossed PET.
