Paper Industry Strapping
Paper strapping secures pallets of reams and sheets, and narrow paper rolls, from the mill to the printer or converter. Use PP strap on ream and sheet pallets and embossed PET on heavy ones.
Paper is heavy and delicate
A paper pallet is dense and heavy, and its edges crush easily; on a ream pallet, a tight strap collapses the top reams. Put protectors on the top and corners of the pallet. On roll pallets, the strap ties the rolls to the pallet and should not touch the roll face directly.
From mill to converter
1/2 in × 0.024 in (12 × 0.60 mm) virgin PP at 441 lbf (200 kg) is the starting size for ream and sheet pallets. As pallets get heavier, 1/2 in × 0.031 in PP (507 lbf / 230 kg) or, for long hauls, 1/2 in × 0.028 in embossed PET (661 lbf / 300 kg) leaves a safety margin. The packing line can band automatically; in the warehouse, a semi-automatic machine or a battery tool does the job. If your buyer's specification cites EN 13394 for strap, say so in your request.

Are large paper reels strapped?
Large reels are usually wrapped in wrapper paper and handled with clamps. Strap is more useful on pallets of narrow rolls and on stacked loads.
Are corner protectors a must on ream pallets?
If the strap touches the paper edge directly, the risk of marks is high. A corner protector spreads the strap force along the edge and keeps the top reams usable.
