Machinery Crate and Skid Strapping

Machinery crate strapping keeps wooden crates, skids, spare parts boxes and export packaging closed and together for the whole trip. On crates and skids, we recommend embossed PET strap.

The strap holds the crate, not the machine

A heavy machine is bolted to its skid; strapping does not replace that connection. The strap keeps crate lids and panels closed, holds boxes on pallets and stops a crate from opening at sea. For that job, start with 5/8 in × 0.030 in (16 × 0.75 mm) embossed PET at 937 lbf (425 kg).

Application in the packing area

In crate assembly, use a battery tool or a pneumatic tensioning and welding tool; where there is no power, band by hand with buckles. Place a corner protector where the strap meets a crate edge. Under EN 13394, PET strap may be smooth or embossed; if your specification names a surface type, include it in your inquiry.

Frequently asked questions

What if the crate waits in storage for months?

Plastic strap does not rust and keeps the crate closed in a damp warehouse. Crate joints can loosen as the wood dries, so check strap tension before shipping after a long wait.

Is strapping enough to hold the machine on its skid?

No. Fix the machine to the skid with bolts or suitable fasteners; the strap protects the crate's integrity and the position of boxes on the pallet. Keeping the two jobs apart lowers the risk of damage.
