Glass Industry Strapping

Glass strapping secures flat glass lites to racks or crates and holds bottles and jars on pallets. With a fragile load, tension setting and edge protection affect the result as much as the strap itself.

Glass fails at a single point

If the strap touches glass directly, tension concentrates on a small area and the risk of breakage rises. Protect lite edges and pallet corners. On bottle and jar pallets, a strap applied together with tier sheets and a top frame stops the layers from sliding.

PP or PET?

For light, bulky loads such as empty bottle and jar pallets, 1/2 in PP is enough and costs less. Move to 1/2 in embossed PET for heavy flat glass crates or long ocean moves. ASTM D3950 treats joint strength as a separate property: on a glass pallet, the weld or buckle counts as much as the strap.

Frequently asked questions

Where should the strap run on a glass rack?

Around the lite pack and through the load-bearing leg of the rack, with protectors on the glass edges. Follow the rack maker's instructions for tie-down points.

How should I set tension?

Start at a level that holds the pack without stressing the glass. Test the setting on the first load and check it on arrival; if the load shifts, add a band rather than raising tension.
