Cotton Bale Strapping
Cotton bale strapping holds pressed lint at bale size and keeps the bale from opening in storage or in transit. Polipak Plastik makes embossed PET strap for this job, an alternative to steel wire and steel strapping.
Why a bale needs constant tension
Pressed cotton wants to return to its original volume, and every tie carries that force for the whole trip. PET strap stretches and recovers, so it keeps its tension as the bale settles. It cannot rust, so it leaves no rust stains on the lint, and a cut PET strap has no sharp, springing end.
Size and tying
Our heaviest embossed size is 3/4 in × 0.050 in (19 × 1.27 mm), with a catalog break strength of 1,929 lbf (875 kg). For lighter bales, start with 5/8 in × 0.039 in (16 × 1.00 mm, 1,290 lbf / 585 kg) and confirm on your own press. The strap can go on with the baler's automatic tying head or by hand with buckles.

Frequently asked questions
Embossed or smooth PET for cotton bales?
We recommend embossed, because the pattern reduces slipping in the buckle. Smooth PET carries a higher catalog value at the same size, 2,150 lbf (975 kg) at 3/4 in × 0.050 in, and it is an option if your press runs smooth strap.
Can I switch a wire-tie baler to PET?
A wire-twisting head cannot join PET strap. PET needs a friction-weld tying head or manual application with buckles. Tell us your baler make and tying head, and we will suggest a size that fits.
